“This is common among the grandchildren of the deceased and even some of our churches are victims of land grabbing, but we are going to work hard to stop it,” she said.

Lands minister Judith Nabakooba has decried an increase in land disputes among family members in greater Mubende.

She noted that these disputes arise out of the owners of the estates dying and their relatives descending on their already distributed land, hence terrorizing the beneficiaries.

“This is common among the grandchildren of the deceased and even some of our churches are victims of land grabbing, but we are going to work hard to stop it,” she said.

Nabakooba made the remarks during the celebration of Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese's 42 years of existence on November 26, 2023, at its headquarters.

The diocese was originally part of Kampala Metropolitan Diocese until 1981.

The minister asked the public to utilise the idle land as it is susceptible to land grabbers.

“When the land lies idle, it attracts the grabbers. Ensure that you utilise the land and do something productive," she urged the people.

She also implored families to avoid land fragmentation.

"I also encourage you to refrain from dividing land among family members. Keep it as a whole that is when you will produce food in large quantities."

The minister heard that St Paul Kibubula sub-parish in Busunju parish under the Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese had its land taken by some family members after the owner of the estate who offered a piece of land to the church died.

The church was closed last year in July to handle the issues on this land.

The function was led by the newly appointed Bishop of Kasana-Luwero Diocese, Rt. Rev. Bishop Lawrence Mukasa, who animated the mass.

The celebration mass was attended by people from different walks of life, including religious leaders, political leaders, and churchgoers.

“There is an increase in the cases of domestic violence among married couples. Dedicate your families to God, He will fight all your battles and you live a peaceful life,” Mukasa, who hails from Kiyinda-Mityana, urged the faithful.

Rt. Rev. Bishop Joseph Anthony Zziwa, the Bishop of Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese, said that this was a memorable day in the history of their church and the people of the diocese, saying it was worth celebrating.
