Oftentimes, when a retaining wall loses visual appeal, the easiest way designers and property owners use to restore its beauty is to scrub it, especially if it’s a concrete or stone wall.

However, Joshua Twinomurinzi, a landscaper with Divine Construction prefers painting a concrete wall than scrubbing it. He says, if you use appropriate weather guard paint, it instantly gives that wall a glow and it stays for a long.

Maureen Nakabuye, a designer concurs saying paint helps to brighten up the outdoors and elevate home value in the long run.

“That retaining wall should do more than keep the earth in its place. It should give the home that curb appeal,” she says.

Choose a colour that blends well with your outdoors.

Away from paint, you can also decorate your retaining wall with stones since they come in different shapes, sizes, and textures. They are also weather-resistant and durable.

Choose the ones that will match the outdoors and if you opt for machine-cut stones, get the right size and design.

Meanwhile, a retaining wall is a structure that holds or retains soil behind it.

Muhammad Nsereko, a construction expert with 3m designs and construction warns that once this wall is built recklessly, it can give way and cause damage.

Consider the height of the wall while building it. Look at the neighbors’ level and compare it to yours, then build a strong wall to retain that earth.

“Wall strength will depend on its height. The higher it is the more reinforcement you will need,” he says.

But also, Noah Serugo, another construction expert with Bakaluba Properties Ltd advises to give the wall a strong foundation whether you are building with stone, bricks, or concrete.
