For an impressive home, you need to create a dramatic central focal point from where all interior décor elements flow.

According to Eva Abwola, an interior designer with Black Abba Tiles, in Industrial Area, Kampala, 3D wall panels will help you enhance the beauty of your walls and bring your interior space to life.

“Panels will give your space a refreshing and amazing look. Forget the paint. Just measure, peel and stick,” she states.

With an accent 3D wall panel texture, life is breathed into boring spaces.

However, Abwola cautions against covering all walls with panels because overdoing them ruins the visual appeal. Just use them to create a feature wall.

“You do not need too many expensive elements in a room with a funky panel wall because it’s just enough to pull out that kinetic and incredible look,” Abwola explains adding that in noisy places, panels help reduce noise in the interior.

3D wall panels enhance space, elegance

Rose Achayo, another wall panel expert says there is a wide range of 3D wall panels, but the most popular is the PVC (Polyvinyl chloride) or plastic.

These are lightweight decorative items in different designs that are easy to fix and maintain.

However, she notes that these panels come in natural white colour to enable the designer to paint them in any colour of their choice.

“You can paint them before or after installing them,” she says.

Achayo says the panels can be used to create feature walls on the TV area in the sitting room, bed heads, ceilings, kitchen, bathroom and children’s bedrooms.

They can also be used in the reception areas of hotels, restaurants, offices, and entertainment units among others.

“In these spaces, panels transform the walls with depth and create an amazing look to the guests,” she adds.

How to install the panels

Abwola says a creative homeowner does not need to hire an expert to fix them. They can just make sure the wall surface is smooth to create sleek feature designs.

“Before anything, know the design you want, whether it is floating, wall-to-wall or one that requires a border,” she cautions.

After measuring the wall dimensions, smear latex glue on the panel and fix it on the wall following clean lines to bring out the designs.

Remember to use a damp cloth to wipe away the excess adhesive that may ruin the texture of the panels.

Abwola advises that you work corner-to-corner starting from the top to down and make sure all edges are properly bonded on the wall.

However, she advises that you let the glue harden and cool before proceeding with the installation.

“For a perfect seamless finish, fill the gaps with puffy filler before painting or spraying the panels with a colour that blends well with the room accessories,” she explains.

Maintenance and cost

“Dust them with a dry cloth. If necessary, you can use a slightly moist clean cloth,” she says.

Abwola says each square meter of the wall panels costs sh135,000/=.
