Livestock farmers in Teso sub-region have been implored to ensure their animals have adequate access to clean water and sufficient pasture as part of efforts to prevent the outbreak of livestock diseases.
This call was made by Dr Robert Ojala, the Regional Veterinary Inspector for Teso-Karamoja in the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industries and Fisheries (MAAIF), during an interview with Etop Radio from his office.
According to him, good animal husbandry practices not only reduce the spread of diseases but also improve livestock production, resulting in better incomes for farming households.
Dr Ojala used the same opportunity to encourage livestock farmers to regularly spray their animals against ticks, observe routine vaccination schedules and carry out deworming to keep their livestock healthy and productive.
He further calls on them to seek guidance from veterinary officers whenever they notice unusual signs of illness in their animals, noting that early detection and treatment can help prevent heavy losses.
