Museveni appoints Muhoozi new Chief of Defence Forces

 MILITARY RESHUFFLE 

President Yoweri Museveni, who is the Commander-in-Chief of Uganda's armed forces, on Thursday (March 21) appointed Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba the new Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).

He replaced Gen. Wilson Mbasu Mbadi, who was appointed Minister of State for Trade and Cooperatives in the latest Cabinet reshuffle announced the same day.

Defence spokesperson Brig. Gen. Felix Kulayigye confirmed the military reforms.

Prior to his appointment as new CDF, Muhoozi served as the presidential advisor in charge of special operations.

He is also is the chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), a group that describes itself as "non-partisan, non- denominational and non- sectarian".

In the latest military changes, President Museveni also appointed Lt. Gen. Charles Okidi the deputy CDF.

Okidi replaced Lt. Gen. Peter Elwelu, who was appointed special presidential advisor.

Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF) Chief of Staff for Land Forces, Maj. Gen. Jack Bagonza Bakasumba, was appointed the Joint Chief of Staff.

Bagonza replaced Maj Gen Leopold Kyanda, who was appointed a defence attaché.
