The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has apologised for the traffic incident that occurred at Kibuye Roundabout in Katwe, a Kampala suburb, on Tuesday morning.

Jacquelyn Okui, the spokesperson of ODPP, said in a press statement that one of their security backup vehicles collided with a motorcycle on which a woman and a child rode.

Reports identified them as a mother taking her child to school.

Police had by press time not divulged their names nor the identity of the boda boda cyclist or the ODPP driver.

The victims fell off the motorbike while the driver of the vehicle knocked them over and sped off, according to photos shared on social media platforms such as X, formerly Twitter.

Some eyewitnesses said on X that the driver vehicle registration number UG 1059 J was driving on the wrong side of the road.

“The Office of ODPP expresses its sincere regret for the traffic incident,” Okui said.

She also said their office had already reached out to the victims and was working closely with the Police authorities to manage the situation and ensure that they receive all the necessary support.

“Further, we understand that the safety of all individuals on the road is paramount, and we are taking the necessary steps to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future,” she added.
