A Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) officer attached to Rubongi Barracks Tororo has been killed in a road crash.

Moses Okera, 42, warrant officer 1, who has been working as a laboratory technician, died on the spot when he rammed into a stationary trailer that had parked in the middle of the road on Monday afternoon.

Okera who was riding a motorcycle UEW 821B was returning from Mbale blood bank where he had gone to collect blood when he rammed into a stationary trailer registration UAW 263G/UAP 264U at Atiri village, 10 miles from Tororo town.

Acting Bukedi South Police spokesperson James Mugwe said preliminary investigations showed that the deceased attempted to overlap the stationary vehicle and yet there was another vehicle coming from the opposite direction.

He said to avoid a head-on collision, he rammed into the trailer causing him to die on the spot. 

A bucket containing several packets of blood was also recovered at the scene.

The Police attributed the crash to obstruction of the road by the trailer.

He said the deceased's body was taken to Rubongi Military Hospital for a postmortem, while the killer's trailer and motorcycle were towed to Tororo central police station.
