Arua youth asked to concentrate on education, keep away from drugs

Arua district youth have been asked to concentrate on education if they are to benefit from the competitive job market.
The call was sounded by Arua leaders as the district celebrated the belated International Youth Day at Ajia sub-county headquarters on Saturday.
Other activities performed to mark the day included tree planting, drama, and cultural songs by schoolchildren.
Vurra County legislator Yovan Adriko advised the youth to go to school so that they can perform favorably when jobs are advertised.
He also told them to stop abusing drugs such as mairungi and smoking marijuana. According to him, drug abuse predisposes one to mental illnesses.
Respect the women
Arua District Woman MP Lillian Paparu said most of the youth in Arua need to know that they are like this because of their mothers, who breastfeed them from childhood, and they need to respect the mothers very well.
Robert Eyotia, a youth chairperson, said he doesn't have to aid in good sensitisation activities.
Eyotia also blames Arua district officials for not sharing information with youths about ongoing programs like the presidential skill centre at Zombo, where youths are recruited through the office of the LCV chairman without their knowledge.
Arua Resident District Commissioner Geoffrey Okiswa advised the youth to register with the parish chiefs so that they can benefit from government programmes such as the Parish Development Model.
