The State Minister of Lands and Urban Planning, also the Terego East MP, Obiga Kania, has decried the rising cases of insecurity in Arua city.

Kania who was previously the internal affairs state minister blames the lawlessness in the city on laxity by security agencies.

The minister’s outcry comes in the wake of rampant theft and associated cases of mob action that have seen many suspected criminals lynched in different parts of Arua city.

According to Kania, by the time the public takes the law into their hands, it implies that the security agencies have failed to perform their duties.

He’s calling on security agencies to go to the drawing board and address the root causes of the mob violence and criminality in the city.

Ahead of the National Housing and Population Census 2024, Kania has also cautioned local leaders in the areas affected by boundary conflicts in the West Nile sub-region against denying citizens a chance to be counted.

Uganda is set to conduct the National Housing and Population Census 2024 with the reference night being May 9, 2024.

He also further cautioned institutions such as religious and cultural against demobilising their followers to participate in the census.

This will be the eleventh census since the country started conducting one, and the sixth in the post-independence period.
