Police identify others killed alongside ex-MP Angiro

The Aswa regional Police have identified those killed in the motor crash alongside former Erute North Member of Parliament Charles Angiro Gutomoi.

The car crash involving a white Toyota Noah: UAW 943A is reported at Nwoya Central Police Station under reference number CPS TAR 63/23.

The crash reportedly occurred at Ayago in Murchison Falls National Park along the Karuma Pakwach highway in Nwoya district.

Police in a statement identified the deceased as, Charles Angiro Gutumoi, 74, who died on the spot; Debora Ogwang, a resident of Ireda, in Lira city also died on the spot; the driver of the ill-fated motor vehicle Dan Ogwal died on arrival at Anaka General Hospital and Good luck Eric Jonathan, 12, also died on arrival at Anaka General Hospital.

Particulars of injured victims

Those admitted at Anaka General Hospital are Winnie Adongo, 21; Tina Ogwang, the wife of former Lira city mayor Mike Ogwang Olwa; Agnes Erik, 43, the wife of the Rev. Isaac Erik who lost her two children; Patrick Omara, 56, a teacher and one-year-old Lockin Armstrong Erik, who survived with minor injuries after his mother threw him out of the staggering vehicle and landed on the grass.

The victims were all transferred to Lira Regional Referral Hospital on Saturday afternoon.

Police stated that the motor vehicle was coming from Lira while heading to Nebbi district to Attend a traditional marriage and upon reaching Ayago in Murchison Game Park the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned killing four of its occupants and injuring two.

Police said they visited the scene and documented and ferried the bodies to Anaka Hospital mortuary pending postmortem.

They also alerted the Command Centre as inquiries goes on.

Ceremony called off

Solomon Owoo, who had travelled to Nebbi the previous day to act as a groomsman, said: “It’s a very sad incident, the marriage has been called off".

The Rev. Ben Robert Okello, the chaplain of Lira Regional Referral Hospital, who travelled with the team in another vehicle, said when they reached the game park, one of the vehicles had been involved in a crash.

He commended Dr Jane Ruth Aceng for sending ambulances that evacuated the injured and dead to the hospital.

The Rev. Erik speaks out

Distraught the Rev. Sam Isaac Erik who lost his two biological children and two relatives commended the police, leaders of Lango, and all those who helped the victims.
