The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has mourned the death of former Erute North Member of Parliament Charles Angiro Gutomoi who perished in a car crash on July 8, 2023, on the Karuma-Pachwach road.

“As the FDC, we join in mourning the loss of a remarkable leader, a true patriot and a beloved member of our party. His unwavering dedication and immense contributions to both the party and Uganda as a nation will forever be remembered,” the Opposition party tweeted on Saturday, July 8.

Angiro died in the crash, which also claimed three others in Murchison Game Park.

Initial police reports indicate that the driver Ogwal, upon reaching Ayago in the game park, lost control of the vehicle, which caused it to crash, killing four of its occupants and injuring two others.

The accident occurred at about 6:00am on the Karuma-Pakwach highway.

Police reports indicate the driver was speeding.

According to FDC, Angiro was not only a distinguished public servant, but also a valued member of FDC and the Awitong of Onywal Ipyeda Clan.

“We stand united with Angiro’s family, friends and the people of Erute during this difficult time. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire and guide us in our pursuit of a better future for Uganda,” the tweet read in part.

In a separate interview with FDC spokesperson Ibrahim Ssemujju, the party will join the family to organise the burial programme, which will be shared with the public.

Also, according to Ssemujju, the party shall share contributions to the burial costs to ensure that the late is accorded a deserving burial.

“We are standing with the family throughout these difficult times. We want the fallen MP to be accorded the befitting burial,” Ssemujju said in a phone interview.
