Two people have been killed by a truck that reportedly failed to break on a hilly stretch in Kalaki district.

Police said the vehicle — a Mitsubishi Fuso Fighter — is said to have developed a mechanical fault.

This happened Thursday (March 02) evening at Lwala bridge along the Soroti-Lira Road, said Kyoga East Police spokesperson Oscar Ageca on Friday.

The truck was on its way from Dokolo district headed for Soroti city.

The fatal incident was recorded at Kalaki Central Police Station (CPS Kalaki TAR 09/2023).

Ageca said the truck "reversed and overturned, killing two people on the spot".

The dead are Anna Grace Apio, a resident of Osirimà village, Apapai sub-county in Kalaki district and an unidentified male adult whose body was still at Lwala Hospital mortuary pending autopsy, Police added.

Five people escaped with injuries and were taken to Lwala Hospital for medical attention.

The driver of the truck, who is unknown, is said to have run away.
