Motocross returns to action on Sunday at the Uganda Motorsport Arena in Busiika, Luweero district with the Motorcycling Association Uganda (MAU) Pre-Challenge.

The event is meant to prepare riders for the highly billed first round of the 2022 MAU Challenge due February 20 in Busiika.

Before the first challenge, there will be an awards night on February 12.

The faction advocating for the independence of motocross from rallying released 14 calendar events including the Armed Forces Motocross Championship in October 2022.

The previous two years were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic that led to the cancellation of a majority of events worldwide.

The faction that unites 90% of Uganda’s elite racers drew up a calendar parallel to that of the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU), the country's motorsport body, a sign that hopes of reconciliation are far from a reality.

Julius Bukenya the MAU secretary told New Vision Sport that they are doing all it takes to give fans value for their money being that the economy has been opened and fans allowed to return to sporting venues.

“The racers have been training and we expect to test them before the competitive events. What we are looking at is having quality and competitive races throughout the year,” Bukenya noted.

Gift Ssebuguzi, Milton Akaki, Jeremiah Mawanda, Telvin Jjunju, Ramathan Mubiru, Orland brothers Stav, Alon and Aviv, Fortune Sentamu, the Omar brothers Ali, Wazir and Waleed, are some of the elite racers showcasing in the different classes.
