Over 40 villages in Kayunga district to get electricity

KAYUNGA | RURAL | ELECTRICFICATION 

KAYUNGA - Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) to connect over 40 villages in Kayunga and Kamuli districts on grid. 

Some of the villages that will benefit from the project include; Kusana-Bukolwa, Sababu, Bugobero, Masembe, Lusenke-Farm, Namusaala I and II, Namatogonya, Nabuganyi, Kiyuya, Nekoyede, Kyengera, Kayonjo, Kibuzi, Bakuta, Bunzibirinde, Kyengera, Busunsuli, Kiziika(Bukungulu), Nampanyi, Nakakandwa, Bugadhu Pallisa, Buyuki, Kagoye, Bugoge, Kisagazi, Kiteredde, Wabigwo, Namatogonya and among others.

The grid extension project will cost sh11b and is expected to be completed in 24 months.

The project will comprise the construction of 30.28km of Medium Voltage lines, 56.15km of Low Voltage lines (3 Phase), 23.4km of Low Voltage lines (Single Phase), and 51 transformers (50kVA) in Kayunga district. 

In addition, the project will also comprise the construction of 10.8km of MV lines, 3km of LV lines (3 Phase), 10km of LV lines (Single Phase), and 8 transformers (50kVA) in Kamuli district. 

 

This will be supervised by UEGCL with support from the Rural Electrification Programme under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development. 

The project duration is 36 months. 

Amos Lugoloobi, the State Minister for Finance, Planning and Economic Development and Member of Parliament for Ntenjeru North, Kayunga District officiated a groundbreaking ceremony.

According to Dr. Eng. Harrison Mutikanga, Chief Executive Officer, UEGCL, the project is part of phase II of the Community Development Action Plan (CDAP) currently being implemented by UEGCL designed to mitigate the increased pressure on local infrastructure, social services, and livelihoods arising from the construction of the Isimba hydropower plant.
