Vision Group, in partnership with the Chinese Embassy in Uganda, is set to give its readers a free My China magazine containing experiences of Ugandans who have lived and worked in China.

The free copy, according to David Mukholi, the managing editor, editorial at Vision Group, will be inserted in the New Vision on Monday.

A total of 24,000 copies are expected to be distributed.

The distribution of the free magazine, Mukholi explained, will coincide with the opening of the Forum on China Africa Co-operation (FOCAC) in Dakar, on Monday.

“We are giving out free copies of the My China magazine written by Ugandans. The stories contain their impressions about China, their experiences of working in China, using Chinese products, experiences of studying in China, interacting with Chinese, visiting China and working for Chinese firms,” Mukholi said.

A total of 40 essays were compiled to form the magazine. These are articles that appeared in “My China Story” essay competition that is run every year, since 2018.

My China Essay is an annual activity that gives people the opportunity to write about China. Winners are often gifted with smartphones and free trips to China.

It is against this background that Mukholi called upon the public to take part in documenting their experiences in China.

The next “My China Story” essay competition is scheduled to run from April to June, next year.

Meanwhile, 10 winners of the 2020 “My China Story” essay competition were announced in a virtual ceremony in June.

A total of 135 essays were submitted in the competition that started on April 14 and concluded on June 15.

The Embassy of China in Uganda and Vision Group, through New Vision this year run the “My China Story” essay competition under the theme The Centenary Journey of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and its Inspirations and Applications to the Socio-economic Building a Community with a Shared Future for Uganda and China.

China’s new Ambassador to Uganda, Zhang Lizhong, said the “My China Story” essays provided thought-provoking ideas and a good hint on some areas to focus on, as he embarked on his tour of duty.

Lizhong said for Ugandans to understand China, they should start by understanding the CPC party.

Vision Group Chief Executive Officer Don Wanyama said the multi-media company was looking forward to establishing a stronger partnership with the Chinese embassy and the government of China.

“We pride in being credible and professional,” Wanyama said. Vision Group Editor-in-Chief Barbara Kaija acknowledged the Chinese Embassy for the partnership that has led to the growth of the “My China Story” essay competition.
