Following an operation that targeted boda boda cyclists riding through the Kampala central business district, over 100 motorcycles were impounded yesterday morning.

Over the weekend, the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) had announced that cabinet had approved the boda boda Free Zone in the City's central business area with immediate effect.

The impounded motorcycles were however later hand back to their owners by  Ivan Nduhura, the officer in Charge of Operations at CPS Kampala, after the operation was suspended.

In an interview with the New Vision shortly after announcing the suspension of enforcing the free zone, KCCA spokesperson, Daniel Muhumuza Nuwabine, said boda bodas were free to access the CBD as KCCA prepares to demarcate stages and properly highlight the free zone.

The boda bodas, according to Nuwabine, must utilize the one month grace period to register with leaderships of different stages.
