KAMPALA - Lt. Gen. (rtd) Henry Tumukunde has rallied Ugandans not to give up on elections like four-time presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye whom he claims has since lost hope.

Tumukunde says change of government through ballot is possible.

"Ugandans should not cowardice. I advise you to go and vote. If things fail, we shall know voting is not a route we can take," he said.

Adding, "You can imagine that Dr Besigye has given up. He has lost hope and that is what President Yoweri Museveni wants. I don't know about Besigye's so called plan ‘B'.  I wish I would see him and inquire what his plan entails."

Besigye opted not to run for presidency in the forthcoming elections saying he will lead the opposition in plan ‘B' to cause change in the country.

The former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president, however, did not disclose what his plan ‘B' entails.

Tumukunde, 61, is among the eleven candidates including incumbent President Yoweri Museveni competing for the presidential office in the country. The presidential elections are slated to take place on January 14, 2021.

The retired senior soldier is battling charges of unlawful possession of firearms and treason.

Tumukunde made the comments on Monday (December 21, 2020) while addressing journalists shortly after the City Hall Court deferred the ruling of his case to January 21.

The retired senior soldier is battling charges of unlawful possession of firearms and treason.

Prosecution alleges that Tumukunde was on March 13, 2020 at Impala Avenue Kololo found in possession of a modified AK-47 rifle N0. 19865-BU3618 and a star pistol N0. EL-860030 without holding a valid firearms certificate.

The state also alleges that on March 5, 2020, during the morning show at a local television station in Kamwokya, Tumukunde made treasonous utterances.

He purportedly said, "If I was Rwanda, I would wish to support people who want to cause change in Uganda."

The DPP says such talk was aimed at encouraging Rwanda to invade Uganda to cause unlawful change of government.
