Kanungu has two major national parks in Bwindi and Queen Elizabeth

The Kanungu NRM chairperson Godfrey Karabenda has listed the demands of the people of Kanungu to President Yoweri Museveni during his campaign trail in Rukungiri and Kanungu districts on Monday.

Karabenda said the Kanungu has grown to 16 sub-counties and 9 town councils from only 8 sub-counties in the year 2000 when it became a district carved out of Rukungiri district.

He said that other sub-counties and town councils created have not only brought services nearer to people but also have created very many jobs for Ugandans who are occupying those offices.

Health facilities

Karabenda said Kambuga Hospital which is over 60 years old needs to be upgraded and equipped with modern health facilities as well as stocking it with drugs.

He also urged the President to upgrade Kanungu Health Centre IV to hospital status to cater to the people of Rutenga, Mpungu, and Kayonza as Kambuga is very far from those areas.

Roads

Karabenda also urged the President to tarmac tourism roads in addition to Kanungu Rukungiri road. He named the roads as Kanyantorogo-Bwindi road and Mpungu-Bwindi road.

He also demanded the tarmac from Kanungu to Kambuga and from Kanungu to Nyakishenyi-Kisiizi through Rugyeyo sub-county.

Karabenda praised President Museveni for constructing Kanungu-Rukungiri road which is almost halfway done.

He also said that Kanungu has two major national parks in Bwindi and Queen Elizabeth and animals come out of parks and destroy gardens and urged for an electric fence to stop animals.
