On Tuesday, National Unity Platform (NUP) Robert Kyagulanyi took his campaign message to the districts of Butaleja, Tororo and Busia in eastern Uganda.

Below is a pictorial chronicle of his day:

In Butaleja, he was scheduled to address residents in Busolwe town council, where security was ramped up.

A mood of anticipation enveloped the area, with some seizing the opportunity to make some money by selling merchandise, including shirts.

These youthful supporters of Kyagulanyi stood by a large poster bearing his image.

It was a busy day for was the deployed security, who ensured that the crowds keep off the road.

Kyagulanyi is one of the nine new faces that are vying for the presidency, with the incumbent, President Yoweri Museveni of the NRM and DP's Norbert Mao the only candidates that have previously run for the top seat.

The crowds waited for the arrival of the NUP leader, who is best known as Bobi Wine, thanks to the popularity he gained from his music.

Kyagulanyi burst onto the political scene in 2017 when he became a Member of Parliament to represent the people of Kyadondo East.

On his way to the rally venue in Butaleja, Kyagulanyi and his team had to negotiate their way through a muddy stretch, which his campaign team said delayed them.

One of the vehicles required massive manpower to get it back on its four wheels.

Eventually, albeit with apparent difficulty, the team managed to make their way to the rally venue.

Finally, Kyagulanyi arrived, appearing through the roof of his vehicle and raising his fist with a face mask lowered under his chin. He wore a piece of barkcloth over a grey suit and was welcomed by a large crowd.

Some were determined to catch a glimpse of the first-time presidential candidate by nestling on tree tops.

Kyagulanyi addressed the crowd, before moving on to Tororo district.

These came around to show support for the NUP flagbearer.

After Butaleja, Kyagulanyi and co headed to Tororo and when he got there, he held a rally in the middle of the road at Achilet Grounds.

In times of a global pandemic (coronavirus), most of the people he addressed did not wear face masks - and neither was social distancaning observed.

Kyagulanyi was then to proceed to Busia, where he was scheduled to address the residents at Olympia Africa Youths Centre.

The campaign trail continues.
