FDC's Amuriat combs Acholi region for votes

After Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential flag-bearer, Patrick Oboi Amuriat, expressed shock over the state of the roads in the Lango region on Monday, he will spend the day in Kitgum and Lamwo districts in the Acholi region.

Amuriat spent the night in Agogo district with his campaign team after a tough day that saw his motorcade get stuck on a muddy section of the road in Onyutu village, Alito sub-county in Kole district, on his way to Pader and Agago districts.

He said the poor state of the roads in Lango, especially in Kole, Kwania and Apac districts, portray that the Government deliberately forgot about the areas.

Amuriat had to be lifted off the ground by the Rukungiri Municipality Member of Parliament, Roland Kaginda Mugume and his personal assistant, Ayub Kigongo, after he slid and fell on mud.

He blamed the Government for failure to allocate money where common people can directly benefit from their taxes.

He said unlike candidates who prefer pulling big crowds in urban centres, he wants to centre his campaign in villages, however small the number of people they may attract.

"I am not worried about attracting crowds in the town centres. I need to resonate with people in villages, where 80% of the population lives," he said.

While campaigning in Dokolo district earlier, Amuriat promised that he would compensate the locals for the animals that were raided during the insurgency.

He said they should elect him because he knows the challenges that the people from the north, West Nile and east went through.

He said, although the Government has tried to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, it has failed to reach the expectations of the common person.

He said, when he is voted into power, he will pay sh100,000 to every Ugandan for a period of six months, to uplift their income.

He also vowed to increase the budget of the local government, so that districts are entrusted with money without much bureaucracy, to enhance service delivery.

After campaigns in the Acholi subregion, Amuriat will head to West Nile, before he goes to Bunyoro, and Kigezi.
