Aziz Damani win Uganda Elite League T20

The inaugural Uganda Elite League T20 came to an end disappointingly after the final two days were washed out.

The Aziz Damani Scorpions won the title by finishing top of the table in the round-robin tournament. They beat the Royal Varsani Bucks to the title by one point and the Metro Challengers Mambas by three points.

"I think the tournament has been competitive. There were a few close games obviously at the end the rain interfered a bit but we are just glad to get some cricket in," Aziz Damani Captain Brian Masaba commented.

His team put together the most consistent results over the six days of competition and deservedly won.

It helps that side had the service of batsman Wasim Butt who was every side's nightmare.

Butt took home sh500000as man of the series for his contribution to Damani's title. He also won the best batsman while Siraje Nsubuga was the best bowler. Kizza Johnathan was the best fielder, while Stephen Wabwose was the best wicketkeeper in the tournament.

Aziz Damani as champions received sh3m from UCA and all 14 members of the squad received Hisense phones. Crown beverages alongside Meat One, Karveli Restaurant, and Metro Tyres sponsored the tournament.

After the successful tournament, UCA has proved that as long as COVID-19 guidelines are followed sports can be restarted.

"I think we've shown that this can be pulled off. Following the guidelines not just for cricket but for sports in general so we hope we've taken a giant step towards that," Masaba explained.
