Minister Kutesa hosts UN assistant Secretary-General

In the meeting, they discussed issues of sustainable peace and security in the Republic of Burundi, in reference to the Arusha Peace and Reconciliation Agreement of August 2000.

KAMPALA - The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sam Kutesa has Friday met with Bintou Keita, the United Nations (UN) Assistant Secretary-General for Africa at the ministry headquarters. 

Keita, who was accompanied by the UN Resident Coordinator Rosa Malango, called on the office of the minister to discuss matters concerning regional political affairs.

In the meeting, they discussed issues of sustainable peace and security in the Republic of Burundi, in reference to the Arusha Peace and Reconciliation Agreement of August 2000.

Meanwhile, Keita conveyed a message of gratitude to the government of Uganda for its continued commitment and dedication in not only supporting regional peace and security but also its humanitarian efforts of hosting a large number of refugees. 

On the other hand, Kutesa welcomed the assistant Secretary-General and commended the existing cordial working relations between Uganda and the United Nations specifically the departments of Political and Peacebuilding affairs; and Peace Operations. 

Kutesa further reiterated Uganda's commitment to promoting Peace and Security not only in the region but also across the entire African continent in the spirit of Pan-Africanism.
