Korean Embassy donates assorted items for COVID-19

KAMPALA - Medics under the Kampala Medical and Allied Health Workers Cooperative Society (KMAHCOS) have received an assortment of medical items to help in responding to the COVID-19 fight.

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea donated the items and applauded the government's efforts it has incurred in fighting the pandemic.

Items donated included masks, sanitizers, gloves, soap, and washing stations, among others.

Handing over the items, Jungok Shin, the Secretary, Embassy of Republic of Korea said donating the items was important because Uganda is on the frontline in the fight against the global pandemic.

"We want to thank the Ugandan government for the efforts it has put to protect its citizens from the virus. We also salute the frontline workers and urge them to continue sensitising and saving lives of Ugandans from the virus," Jungok said. 

So far, about $6m has been provided by the government of the Republic of Korea to Uganda in response to the COVID-19 fight.

Dr Dan Atuwaire, the chairperson, KMAHCOS applauded the Korean Embassy for the donation saying that many organisations had not thought about the private entities.

"Private entities are the first people to meet the patients before they are referred to government facilities, so we are very thankful," Atuwaire said.

He added that their Cooperative Society has 217 registered members and it comprises of medical doctors, physicians, clinical officers, and allied health workers.

The state minister for Cooperatives Fredrick Ngobi encouraged health workers to have a vision and aim at saving lives rather than complaining about salaries, adding that nobody should seek gains.
