15 nominated for Mbarara mayor race

Five were nominated to compete for the Mbarara City mayoral seat, six for the Mbarara City North division seat and four for Mbarara City South division.

MBARARA - The Mbarara City mayoral race is becoming tight following the nomination of 15 candidates to compete for the city's top positions.

Of these, five were nominated to compete for the Mbarara City mayoral seat, six for the Mbarara City North division seat and four for Mbarara City South division.

Candidates nominated for the Mbarara City mayoral seat are Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi (NRM), Stanley Katembeyi (FDC), Norman Vincent Mugarra (ANT), Albert Akatukunda (independent) and Apollo Kibira (independent).

Those nominated for divisional mayor in Mbarara North division are Bintabara Mwetise (ANT), Geoffrey Ayebazibwe (FDC), Kyabwisho Gumisiriza (NRM), Ainamani Naboth (NUP), Benon Mugume (independent) and Jones Asingwire (independent).

Those nominated for the Mbarara City South division seat are Jomo Mugabe (NRM), Benon Tumuhairwe (FDC), Godwin Byekwaso (ANT) and Quraish Segawa (NUP).

Mbarara City Electoral Commission (EC) returning officer Latif Ngonzi urged nominated candidates to conduct peaceful campaigns and observe the COVID-19 standard operating procedures.
