Isimba bridge to be ready for public use by December

The construction works at Isimba bridge are expected to be completed by December this year.

The bridge connects the districts of Kayunga and Kamuli on River Nile.

The news of the completion date gives hope to travelers who have been using the longer road route via Jinja, to connect to the two districts.

The bridge is being constructed by the China International Water and Electric Corporation which constructed the 183MW Isimba hydropower dam.

Assistant project manager Yang Yii said they have completed 90% of the work and, in December, the bridge will be handed over to the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA).

UNRA engineer Yasin Kayemba said the bridge is the second gutter bridge in Uganda, after the one constructed at the Entebbe Expressway.
