Masaba emerged the winner after polling 28,918 votes, trouncing Moses Kisolo, Fred Masaba and Suleiman Wandukwa in the party’s primary elections.

Mbale district NRM chairperson Muhamud Masaba has been declared the NRM flag-bearer for industrial division Mbale city mayor.

Masaba emerged the winner after polling 28,918 votes, trouncing Moses Kisolo, Fred Masaba and Suleiman Wandukwa in the party's primary elections.

The voting exercise on Monday was delayed in several polling stations by over an hour.

In the suburbs of Malukhu, Nauyo, Namatala and Marare, voters attempted to take over the works of the polling officials by conducting the exercise themselves, but the Police saved the situation.

In Namatala deport, there was resistance from the voters who attempted to beat up the officials. Masaba said the elections were free and fair and appealed to his colleagues to join him in order to defeat opposition politicians in Mbale city.

Masaba said he has always been a unifying factor of NRM supporters in Mbale. He added that elections should not divide support for NRM in the district.

Meanwhile, in the northern city division, George Mwanika beat Zubair Galiwango and Alex Massa. Security also described the voting exercise as peaceful, compared to the recently concluded primaries.
