Police arrests son over father's death

Police reveals that the deceased's body was recovered lying in eucalyptus tree plantation beside the path to his home.

RUKUNGIRI- Police in Rukungiri district have arrested a 19-year-old boy in connection to the murder of his father.

Ivan Ndyabagye, a resident of Nyaruhungye cell, in Kikongo Parish, Bwambara Sub-County, in Rukungiri district, is suspected to have masterminded the murder of his own father, Yoram Twebaze, 63, over land disputes.

The Kigezi regional Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate told New Vision, four other suspects including; Ezra Nuwagaba, Stanley Kisheija, Lawrence Ngabi, and the deceased's widow- Slivia Kwarija, were also arrested to help police with investigations.

"Our investigations show that the deceased was last seen at Ngabi's residence and he was in company of Nuwagaba, and Kisheija, on Sunday (September 13, 2020) at around 7pm," said Police.

It is alleged that the prime suspect has been in constant battles with his father for failure to give him part of his land so that he can build there his house.

"Ndyabagye, has been badly demanding land from his father until Saturday (September 12, 2020) when the area local Council Chairman intervened and compelled the deceased who accepted to give his son some land as a way of de-escalating the tension between the two parties," he explained.

Police said they suspect the deceased to have been murdered by strangulation, but they are waiting for the postmortem report to match the facts as further investigations into the matter continue vide RRI CRB:1713/2020.
