Bail hearing for NRM official accused of embezzlement flops

Lawrence Mayambala a senior staffer at the National Resistance Movement remains on remand after court rescheduled the hearing of his bail application to next week.

Mayambala, 49, the senior manager mobilization and recruitment in the ruling NRM party was remanded on Friday and was set for a bail hearing on Monday but the magistrate assigned to the case, Albert Asiimwe, was upcountry on other assignments.

He was arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court in Kololo and charged with embezzlement and conspiracy to commit a felony, offences he pleaded not guilty to.

Mayambala is accused of embezzling funds worth sh115,817,000 meant for organising the recent youth elections in the party.

It is alleged that he committed the offence on August 16 in his office at the party headquarters at Kyadondo Road in Kampala and that he conspired with others who are still at large.
