MOTORING
Car seat covers usually give the car interior a good look, a reason motorist invests in them.
They are made in different sizes to fit different types of cars. These include the custom fit car seat covers, that fits particular cars like land cruiser, Prado, Mini vans, Ipsums, and the universal fit car seat cover that can fit in any car.
However, the choice of a car seat cover differs from one motorist to another. Others choose covers depending on the type and color of the car among others.
There are different types of covers on the market, but before a motorist settles for a particular type, it's important that they are sure it suits their car.
The different types include soft leather, pure leather, cloth, and plastic seat cover among others.
Stella Nantumbwe, who deals in car seat covers in Kiseka explains that most of the types are on the Ugandan market but it's important that motorists research before they buy.
But one wonders how do they differ from each other.
Cloth seat cover
Nantumbwe notes that these come in different sizes and colors and can be used by several types of cars.
She notes that this type of cover is commolnly used by private and commercial car owners.
"The only challenge with them is that they retain a lot of dirt and get stained easily which often require washing," she adds.
She says the cost depends on the size of the car but the price ranges between sh100,000 to 250,000 for a commuter taxi.
Adding that durability depends on the quality of the seat cover.
Plastic seat covers
Denis Kasozi who deals in car seat covers explains that, this type is usually preferred by motorists in the transport business, commuter taxis.
"Cleaning it is easy. All the car owner does, is use a damn cloth to remove the dust," he says.
However, he adds that passengers sometimes avoid cars with such seat covers because they are slippery that in case, a driver breaks, the passengers slide off.
Leather seat cover
Kasozi notes that this type is used by both commercial and private car owners, and these come in different types and colors.
Agnes Kityo who has such seat covers in her car says, besides being comfortable, they add beauty to the car interior.
However, she says taking care of them comes at a cost.
"This type of a seat cover has specific a spray used when cleaning but one can also dust them regularly," she states.
She says leather prices range from sh200,000 to sh500,000.
Other types include the Swed seat cover, Mat like seat cover and woolen seat.
The woolen costs sh150,000 to sh200,000, Swed goes for sh100,000 to sh150,000 and the Mat like seat cover costs sh150000.
Why put seat covers
Kasozi states that in Uganda, most people drive second-hand cars which come with torn or worn seats. Because of this, car owners opt for seat covers.
He says seat covers protect the original seat cloths that remain clean even at the time of selling off a car, the seller can get a good bargain.
