"I am praying that no other Ugandan ever becomes positive," Kasingye posted earlier.

A senior Police officer who tested positive for COVID-19 and was started on treatment has now tested negative.

Asan Kasingye, the director of the force's political commissariat, announced 17 days ago that he had tested positive for the virus and was quarantined.

In the days that followed, Kasingye asked sections of the public to stop stigmatizing others for carrying the virus.

But on Tuesday evening, Kasingye published his test results that indicated that he is now negative.

"Good News. I am now COVID-19 negative," Kasingye posted.

In his earlier tweets, Kasingye advised Ugandans to strictly follow the directives set out by the Government if they are to survive the virus.

"COVID-19 is real," he said, adding: "Prevention starts with you. You should also avoid stigmatizing victims. Pray for them instead."

"I am praying that no other Ugandan ever becomes positive. Just wash your hands, wear a mask, social distance and follow all the other Ministry of Health guidelines," he said.

The Assistant Inspector of Police also said: "I am actually not worried about myself. I am worried about those who think COVID-19 is designed for specific people; politically."

Uganda has so far registered 3,900 cumulative confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 46 deaths related to the virus.

So far, 1,817 people have recovered from the virus.
