It is alleged that the mother to the deceased children only identified as Agnes, left a charcoal stove inside the house, which caused the fire.

Two children were last night burnt to death after a fire gutted a house in Kisimbiri village, Wakiso District.

According to police, they got information from concerned residents of Kisimbiri about a fire outbreak at about 8:00pm on August 28.

Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, said information they got from members of the community revealed that fire broke out in a house belonging to Godfrey Lule, 40, a resident of Kisimbiri A village, Wakiso Town Council in Wakiso District.

"At the scene, the police discovered bodies of two juveniles; Cyrus Lule, 9 months, and Jeremiah Muhingo, 2 years, who were burned to death in the house," Onyango said in a statement today.

It is alleged that the mother to the deceased children only identified as Agnes, left a charcoal stove inside the house, which caused the fire.

At the time the incident happened, Onyango said the infants' mother had allegedly gone out of the house to party.

Her husband was also not at home, although it is not clear where he was.

"The mother to the kids fainted upon receiving news of the death of her children. The bodies were taken to the city mortuary for a post mortem. The case is under investigations," explained Onyango.

Police appealed to the community not to leave charcoal stoves or burning candles without an adult attending to them.
