ELECTION WATCH

KAMPALA - Members of the breakaway Democratic Party (DP) bloc, who include MPs, were received by the National Unity Platform (NUP) on Thursday and given party cards, officially becoming members of the party led by Robert Kyagulanyi, who is best known as Bobi Wine.

They included Medard Sseggona, Betty Nambooze, Moses Kasibante, Mathias Mpuuga, Muwanga Kivumbi, Kenneth Paul Kakande, Kigozi Ssajjalabene, Matia Lwanga Bwanika, Mike Mabikke, Allan Ssewanyana and Samuel Walter Lubega Mukaku.

This was at the NUP offices in Kamwokya.

Butambala County MP Muwanga Kivumbi showed off his new party card.

Musician Joseph Mayanja, best known as Jose Chameleon, was among those received by NUP.

The function happened in Kamwokya, Kampala.

Kyagulanyi appeared delighted to receive the new members.

Fists were clenched in solidarity.

Seasoned politician Abed Bwanika also joined NUP.

Supporters showed up at the NUP head offices for the function.

Meanwhile, the picking of expression of interest forms for the NUP presidential flagbearer will kick off on Friday (August 14). This means that as it stands, the party has no presidential flagbearer yet for the 2021 elections. Kyagulanyi is seeking to challenge the incumbent, President Yoweri Museveni of the NRM, in the forthcoming presidential elections.

The elections will be held early next year.
