DP delegates conference to take place in 22 places simultaneously

Aug 04, 2020

The Democratic Party is planning to hold its delegates conference in the 22 different locations simultaneously.

According to Mao this is in adherence to the ministry of health guidelines to avoid the spread of Covid-19.

Mao made the remarks while addressing the weekly party press conference at City House in Kampala on Tuesday.

However the proposal Mao said pends approval by the party national executive committee (NEC) scheduled to take place next week.

NEC according to Mao will fix the date for the delegates' conference though the main venue remains in Gulu City.

"We hope NEC to put in place an interim elections committee to handle the election of party leadership and flag bearers," he said.

According to Mao all the 22 venues will be turned into polling stations for people to vote for the leaders.

"Then by the end of the day the chairperson of the party elections committee will be able to announce the results," he said.

The party national leaders and those contesting for the high offices in the party will convene in Gulu for the main conference.

Candidates at every venue will use multi-media platforms to campaign," Mao said. He disclosed that there is no position which is ring fenced. "But I urge you to elect people who love the party."

The delegates' conference is also expected to discuss constitutional reforms to expand NEC and mainstreaming of the Uganda Young Democrats into the party structures.

Mao disclosed that the nomination of the party candidates for local government elective positions was progressing well.

He said that nomination for Parliamentary seats will be held after the delegates' conference. Mao reiterated that he will be running for the party presidency for the third term.
