Emmanuel Lumala Dombo, the NRM director for information, said in a statement the entire premises of the secretariat would be disinfected on Wednesday evening.

Seventeen staff of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) designated as high risks have been put under institutional quarantine for 14 days after two staff tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday.

Emmanuel Lumala Dombo, the NRM director for information, said in a statement the entire premises of the secretariat would be disinfected on Wednesday evening before they are used again.

Dombo also noted that all staff that had not been tested on Monday would undergo a COVID-19 test tomorrow (Thursday) at the Secretariat and those that were tested will have to repeat the test after one week.

"Following an announcement by the Rt. Hon. Secretary General, Justine Lumumba, that two of our staff tested positive for COVID-19, an urgent meeting has been convened between the secretariat top management team and the National Incident Management Team headed by Dr. Monica Musenero," Dombo stated.

"After a thorough analysis of the risk and exposure of the members of this office, 2 staff who were confirmed positive have been taken under isolation and 17 others designated as high risks have been put under institutional quarantine for 14 days. Starting tomorrow (Thursday), there is going to be a heightened strict observance of the SOPs to minimize exposure and risk."

Dombo urged member of the public to remain vigilant in this fight against COVID-19 and observe the Special Operation Procedures (SOPs).

In an earlier tweet, Lumumba said: "This morning, two of our staff at the NRM secretariat tested positive for COVID-19 and have been admitted to the hospital for proper care."

"We are working with the technical people and further guidance to be given in due course. I urge everyone to stay alert, healthy & safe," she said.

Her tweet came minutes after the health ministry announced five new cases of COVID-19 in the country.

NRM is currently carrying out the nomination of candidates who will participate in party primaries for the 2021 elections.

Hundreds of candidates have for more than a week been picking and returning nomination forms to the party's Electoral Commission offices.
