Over 30 females have received bicycles to facilitate them in the distribution of AIDS related services to people living with HIV and Aids in vulnerable communities.

The support is a donation from UN women in corroboration with the International Community of Women living with HIV in Eastern Africa (ICWEA), Uganda Network of Young People Living with HIV (UNYPA) and Alliance of Women Advocating for Change (AWAC).

The commissioning of the bicycles took place at the ICWEA headquarters in Senga village in Wakiso district ON Wednesday.

Elizabeth Mushabe, the program specialist at UN women said the bicycles will help people living in vulnerable communities to not walk long distances to health facilities for medical services.

"Since most of our people fear to expose their status, the bicycles will help individual persons to reach to medics and get their RVs, than sending people who may reveal their status," Mushabe said.

She explained that positive People had decided to give up on taking their treatment because of fear of disclosing their status to the RDCs, whom they would seek permission from so as to travel and pick the same.

"Those living far away from medics sought to use cyclists, who took much money from them, getting authority from RDCs was also paramount and it could expose one's status, may be against his/her willingness," she revealed.
