POLITICS|GENERAL ELECTIONS
The Democratic Party (DP) president general, Nobert Mao, has said the rebranding of People Power political pressure group into a formidable political party, National Unity Platform (NUP) is a good gesture for multi-party democracy.
Mao reminded DP leaders and members who have already demonstrated their support to People Power and the new party to remain a better choice.
He said people are free to join any party of their choice, adding it was freedom which was ushered in by the ideals of multi-party democracy.
"It will not be the first time that DP is losing members to a new party. We lost members to the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), but we still exist," Mao said.
Mao challenged those who will choose to remain in DP to work for its betterment.
Kyadondo East legislator, Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine was on Wednesday unveiled as the President of NUP in Kamwokya, a city suburb. Several recognizable DP leaders and supporters were seen in attendance.
Bobi Wine described the move as "yet another important step in our liberation struggle".
He said that he hoped to unite the fragmented opposition seeking forces to oust President Yoweri Museveni and the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
