The lock down has been eased but its impact on people's lives is still felt. Charles Baguma is one of the people who have felt the pinch of the lockdown.
Baguma makes children reading and playing material from timber and Bamboo. He sells it to schools and that's how he has been earning a living.
However, due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, all businesses came to a standstill. Schools closed leaving Baguma with no business.
However, he thought hard and decided to use his social media handles to market his products to parents.
"I was surprised by the feedback. Many parents loved my work and encouraged me to make more and sell to them," says Baguma.
His main challenge was transport since then, public transport had been stopped and even private cars were restricted from moving.
He had to devise means of using boda bodas to deliver the products to the interested parents. Up to today, he is making children playing and learning material.
His play items are very useful for the right development of children in kindergarten.
Lessons he has learnt
Baguma has noticed that crisis comes without warning, but one has to devise means of surviving no matter how hard he or she is hit by the crisis.
He notes that creativity rules the world and once you're creative, you can never lack what to do.
"I have also learnt that prayer for money is a waste of time. God never gives us money but rather gives us ideas and wisdom to grow ideas into opportunities that can bring us money," he notes.
He adds that he has also realized that saving in life is a must. It doesn't have to be a lot of money but at least save, so that when you get a crisis, you can deal with it.
Who is Baguma
He is a resident of Lubaga who studied a Bachelor's degree in engineering, but never found the engineering field comfortable for him to work.
He therefore quit and followed his passion of crafting things. That's how he started crafting play and learning material for children in Kindergarten.
His prayer is that when the lock down is lifted, life will go back to normal and schools will re-open.
