LAND DISPUTES
WAKISO - Renowned and vocal Pentecostal pastor Martin Ssempa survived a beating by an angry mob on Saturday, arising from a dispute over land in Bumpenje village, Jjungo ward in Wakiso district.
The mob that was reportedly led by Fred Ssekibala accused Ssempa of land grabbing. Ssekibala is a grandson of the late Samson Kasule who owned the land together with his relatives.
Ssekibala and some of his family members had come to cultivate on the land but to their shock, they found Ssempa and his shamba boys clearing the same land.
Upon spotting them, Ssempa warned them not to trespass on his property which angered Ssekibala and his people.
A heated argument ensued leading to a scuffle which was only calmed down by the arrival of the police from Kasanje Police Station led by Eric Ojoke, who is in charge of crime intelligence.
Ojoke ordered everyone involved in the scuffle to follow him to the police station for a meeting with the Officer in Charge ASP Alex Nuwamanya.
Ssekibala revealed that his late grandfather Kasule left 21 acres of which four were sold to Ssempa by their father Henry Kasule leaving 17 acres.
However, Ssekibala alleges that Ssempa has been encroaching on their remaining land.
Pastor Ssempa however, refutes the allegation of encroaching.
Ssempa insisted on showing Ssekibala and his people his land documents but they were disinterested, they only kept on calling him a conman.
