KAMULI - October 2019 will forever be a nightmare in Dinah Babirye's life. The 28-year-old's life took a sudden twist when she tripped into a saucepan of boiling beans. Parts of her body especially the hands were badly burnt.

The mother of three spent five months in Kamuli General Hospital getting treatment. However, the pain from the burns and the scars still lingers.

Babirye is disabled because by the time she was discharged; the skin of the right elbow had thinned and the hand couldn't stretch anymore.

Her wrist also got deformed, forcing the palm and the fingers to face downwards.

She is dejected and desperate.

The accident happened when she was cooking in a small kiosk in Kananage¬Ngalomwenda Trading centre, Southern Division in Kamuli Municipality, Kamuli district.

Babirye earned a living from cooking food but she can barely do anything now with her hands deformed.

"It's like I didn't recover because the pain is still much. I feel like the skin is tearing. The piercing heat from the scars is also terrible," she said.

Adding to her anguish, her husband abandoned them. He pretended to have gone to look for money, it is now six months and he has never come back.

Babirye needs to go to Mulago hospital but she can't even afford transport to Kampala.

"I was told the plastic surgery will cost sh3.5m, which I have never owned in my life," she said, amidst sobs.
