Arcades in Kampala remained closed on Tuesday morning despite traders under the Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) resolving on Monday to open their shops despite a ban by the government aimed at reducing the spread of COVID-19.

KACITA issued a notice to its members operating from arcades to return to business but on Tuesday morning, only a few shops were open.

The Police deployed heavily in downtown Kampala and while there was relative calm, the Police briefly engaged in running battles with traders in Kisekka Market after a Police patrol vehicle's windscreen was smashed.

Central Police Station's operations commander, ASP Ivan Nduhura, led an operation to enforce the presidential directives and closed some of the shops that were opened, arresting some of the traders.
