Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has rejected the proposed regulations to govern political parties' internal elections during Covid-19 period, which were presented to Parliament on Thursday last week by the minister for justice and constitutional affairs.
In these regulations, government wants parties to conduct virtual meetings, generate resolutions through signing of papers and to use party organs to hand pick flag bearers for the forthcoming national elections.
Speaking during the weekly briefing at FDC party headquarters in Najjankumbi, FDC spokesperson Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda urged parliament to reject the regulations arguing that government is effectively asking parties to usurp their constitutions and effectively abolish multiparty democracy.
FDC also used the occasion to remind its members that issuance of nomination forms for the internal party elections ends tomorrow.
