Don't apply for unaccredited courses, says NCHE

The National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), has warned students who want to join university education, not to be duped into applying for courses which are not accredited by the Government.

The NCHE executive director, Prof. Mary Okwakol, while talking to New Vision said, "A number of times, students just enroll in programmes which are advertised by institutions, without caring to know if they are accredited on not. Students, do not fall into that trap," she warns.

The NCHE is given the powers by law, to accredit all courses which are taught ion all universities in the country.

Even when a course is accredited, its approval expires after five years, since education experts say, after such a period, the body of knowledge may have changed.

It is on this basis, that the NCHE requires universities, to revise their programmes' content. This is condition set for both private and public universities. 


The state minister for higher education Dr. John C Muyingo, also notes, "As students apply for different programmes (courses) in different universities, paying attention to accredited courses is vital."
