The Police says that on Monday morning at around 9 am, John Reagan Ngobi, a resident of Kosokoso village, located in Kira Municipality, Wakiso district, reported himself to Kira Division police armed with three brand new knives, before he was arrested and detained on charges of arson.

"I burnt these churches because of anger arising from the fact that these churches preach about prosperity but I have remained poor all throughout," he confessed.

The Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, told New Vision, that upon getting information, they contacted the area local leaders, led by the chairperson one Ali Mwanda, who also told them, Ngobi, is a renown habitual offender that can do anything.

Police says that the suspect told them that at first, he set St. Noah Catholic Church, which is located in the same area (Kasokoso) on fire, before he did the same on two born-again churches including; God's Tour Promising Church, and Liberty Church of Christ International.

Fearing that Christians would attack him while executing his naughty act, Ngobi said, he equipped himself with sharp knives for self-defence.

"The poverty situation motivated me to buy two litres of Petrol and one of Paraffin, which I used to burn these respective churches," he said.

He also added that his intentions were to see all these churches burn into ashes completely.

According to Rev. Father, Mathias Mulumba Kalemba, of St Noah Catholic Church Kasokoso, the fire destroyed a lot of things including his attires, church books, alter wine, curtains and plastic chairs all valued at one million five hundred thousand, shillings.

"I thank God the attacker's intentions were to burn the whole church but people managed to put off the fire before it could spread further," he said.

Other Pastors, whose churches were also set ablaze by the same self-confessed-arsonist, said they lost a lot of items ranging from sofa sets, wine, curtains, Bibles, and other church books.

"Satan tried to fight God's places of worship through Ngobi, but we thank Him, He showed his presence and managed to overpower the fire, "said Pastor Vincent Bageya, of Liberty Church of Christ international, and Pastor Odinga Kadika Nandere, of God's Tour promising church, respectively.

Police further disclosed that the culprit gained entry into these churches by breaking through windows and then he collected church property and set them on fire with intent to burn the churches down.

Police said they will also subject the suspect to mental checkup to ascertain whether he is in a sound and sane mental state.
