MITYANA - Pupils of Zigoti Standard Primary School in Mityana district escaped unhurt after their dormitory was set on fire by suspected arsonists last night.

According to the pupils who talked to our reporter on the ground, someone opened the door at around 3am and poured paraffin in the dormitory. He then lit the fire and took off.

All the pupils escaped unhurt using the emergency exit door.

Everything in the dormitory was completely destroyed even as neighbours tried to put out the fire.

Mityana District Police Commander Mwine Mukono says the fire brigade will issue a report indicating what they will have found out about the fire.

He said the fire brigade arrived at the scene at night but found the residents had extinguished the fire using sand and water.

Micheal Katende, one of the residents, said they made good use of the available water in the school compound near the dormitory to put out the fire.
