Mbabazi vies for Ntare OBs leadership

Former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi is among the candidates contesting for the leadership of Ntare School Old Boys' Association (NSOBA), when the old students meet this weekend at the school.

The association whose membership comprises President Yoweri Museveni and his Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame and many other senior government and military officials from both Uganda and Rwanda will change leadership on Saturday to replace the outgoing chairman Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye, who is also the science and innovation minister.

The coveted post of leading the association has previously been held by the late Eriya Kategaya, Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu and Maj. Awich Pollar among others.

The General Meeting and elections will be conducted by the former deputy Attorney General, Fred Ruhindi.

The association is deeply involved and a strong influence on the affairs of the school and according to Aggrey Amanyabyona, the head of Publicity and Mobilization, the academic standards of the school have been uplifted by the old boys.

"Education should not be left to the Government and a few individuals. We need to take up the responsibility as people who have gone through the schools and support them," he said.

According to Amanyabyona, the old boys of Ntare school played a great part in lobbying for the Sports facility which the school is enjoying now, adding that the Chrigton Memorial Communication Centre which too, as a result of old boys lobbying houses the ICT Centre and Library.

As an association, we think that other people can borrow a leaf on what we are doing so that together we can move the nation forward, Amanyabyona said.

Such associations he said could do developmental activities like medical camps for the schools, support the needy students and infrastructure developments among others.
