MAGICAL KENYA OPEN

KAMPALA - Uganda's Phillip Kasozi missed an opportunity to gain direct entry into the Magical Kenya Open when he missed the cut in the last leg of the tour at Karen Golf Club in Nairobi.

Kasozi missed by one stroke, having returned 78 and 73 over the first two rounds, respectively, to also miss out on the sh108m prize money that is now going to be shared out by the top 21 players who will play the next two rounds.

It is instead Willy Kitata, Deo Akope and Dennis Anguyo who will partake on the cash, having made the cut in tenth (Kitata and Akope are tied) and twelfth positions with a total gross score of 147 and 148, respectively.

Other Ugandans - Abbey Bagalana, Brian Toolit, Ronald Rugumayo and Becca Mwanja - also narrowly missed the cut alongside 36 other golfers.

Rwanda's Aloys Nsabimana enjoyed a bogey-free second round with a three-under-par, 68 to take a two-stroke lead into the third round at the par-71 course.

"I played well today, I placed the ball where I wanted and I did not take many risks, with the roughs being unforgiving. I am happy with my performance. I am looking forward to more of the same tomorrow and hope I can keep up these scores to the end of the tournament," said Nsabimana.

Kenya's Greg Snow, who was the overnight leader, closely follows in second having carded level-par 71 in the second round on Monday.

Snow hit a double-bogey at the par-4, third, a birdie at the fifth and eighth, before bogeying the ninth for a turning score of 36. A further two birdies at the 12th and 18th, coupled with a bogey at the 16th, saw him return a score of par to relinquish the lead to Nsabimana.

Kenya's Erick Ooko Obura, Zambia's Madalitso Muthiya and Safari Tour leader Dismas Indiza are third, fourth and fifth respectively, having returned 141, 142 and 143 respectively over the first 36 holes.
