Dialogue to promote conservation and tourism

"When the government shows interest in developing a dam on Murchison Falls, you wonder - with all this much sun that God has blessed Uganda with, why can't we develop solar energy? The sun is too much. Murchison falls is a very important heritage for this country. We can leave Murchison Falls and go elsewhere,"  Dr. Frank Magyezi, an academic from Makerere University, has told conservationists.

The Government has recently okayed a study to assess whether part of Murchison Falls - Uhuru Falls- can be developed into a dam for electricity generation.

Magyezi made the remarks at an ongoing stakeholder dialogue aimed at promoting conservation and tourism through advocacy at Parliament. He reiterated the need for conservation because Uganda's tourism, which brings in sh120b, is largely nature-based. Photos by Timothy Murungi
