Buganda region side Kajjansi United has dumped out Vipers SC out of the Uganda Cup after an 8-7 win on penalties following a 1-1 draw in normal time at Wankulukuku stadium.
The Venoms that didn't live to their expectations rallied from behind to level matters after Kajjansi United had taken the lead through Michael Male in the 31st minute.
Vipers equalized in the 72nd minute after Fahad Bayo finished off substitute Paul Mucureezi assist.
After the game, they were ugly scenes as Vipers fans attacked coach Edward Golola but it took the intervention of security to save him from the hostile fans. During the scuffle, some journalists were brutally beaten.
The Kitende based side who last won the Uganda Cup in 2016 will now turn their focus to the league title which they currently top with 42 points.
Vipers' elimination in the knockout competition follows their 1-0 loss to SC Villa in their last league match. Elsewhere, Onduparaka also fell 1-0 to Bugamba 1-0 while Busia Young defeated Busoga United 2-1.
The winner of this season of the Stanbic Uganda Cup will get sh40 up from the sh30m they gave out last season. Runners up will get sh20m while teams that finish in the semi-finals will each get sh12m.
Those that finish in the quarter-finals will each get 6m and those that drop out at the round of 16 will get sh3m each.
The winners of the Uganda Cup will represent the country in CAF Confederation Cup next season. Proline is the Cup holders having won it last time in their history.
