Heathens, Kobs win as rugby league title race heats up

At Legends ground the Barrels Warriors beat Jinja Hippos 26-20 to stay in the second position on the log while Buffaloes defeated hosts Shell Rimula Rhinos 20-7.

RUGBY    NILE STOUT LEAGUE

The Nile Stout Rugby League title contest remains tight as all title contenders won their Saturday games with a bonus point.

Defending champions Hima Cement Heathens beat Plascon Mongers 34-13 at Kyadondo Rugby Club to stay on top of the log with 18 points, two ahead of second-placed Barrels Warriors who defeated Jinja Hippos 26-20 at Legend Rugby Club.

Heathens team captain Michael Wokorach attributed the victory to teamwork and their focus on defending the title.

"We know the pressure is on us because every team is mounting pressure on us, but we shall use that step ahead we started with and experience of our players to contain it," Wokorach Said.

Wokorach scored two tries, Kenneth Okong aka Limbo, Alex Mubiru and Gerald Ssewankambo managed a try each, Aaron Ofoyrwoth added two conversions while Joseph Oyet added a conversion and a penalty.

In Makerere Betway Kobs defeated Mulago Rams 25-0 to secure a bonus point that kept them in the third position with 15points, while in Bweyogerere at Kings Park ground, former champions Stanbic Black Pirates whipped Makerere Impis 65-5.

Youngster Alex Aturinda scored a hat trick of tries, Frank Kidega managed two, while Kelvin Balagadde, Mathias Matovu, Michael Amolo, Isaac Rujumba managed a try each.

Conrad Wanyama managed a try and five conversions before William Nkore added two conversions.
