16 injured in Rukungiri bus accident

KAMPALA - At least 16 people were injured when a bus travelling from Kanungu district to Kampala got involved in an accident.

According to Police, the bus belonging to Highway Coaches failed to climb a steep slope in Rukungiri district, thereby reversing and overturning.

"The likely cause of the accident is that the bus failed to climb a steep slope due to mechanical problems," a Police statement said.

 

"This took place on January o2,2020 at about 09:00am near UMEME offices along  the Rukungiri -Kanungu Road within Rukungiri township," the Police added.

Meanwhile, a team from Red Cross arrived at the accident scene to help the Police.

"No deaths recorded. Our trained RCATs are already on ground giving first aid and helping the Police to refer victims to nearby health facilities," Irene Nakasiita, the Uganda Red Cross, communications officer, wrote in a statement.
